‘Wizard of Oz’ offered by Academy of Dance
Dancers are off to see the wizard with a performance of “The Wizard of Oz” at the Lake Tahoe Community College Theatre March 27 at 3:30 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Students in the Academy of Dance Arts in Gardnerville are celebrating their fifth year of excellence in dance, said Kelly O’Fallon, director and owner of the studio.
“We have our annual Spring Concert in May or June of each year, presenting a full-length ballet for the first half of the show, followed by jazz and tap the second half.”
More and more, she said, singing has been incorporated into the annual shows, and because there are so many talented singers, the musical theater program was born.
Angela Gooch, assistant teacher for the Academy of Dance Arts, is directing the musical. Gooch is a teacher of dance and accomplished singer.
Mother and fathers have made all of the costumes and props and the students have made some of their own costumes.
“We hope the community will come and enjoy Dorothy (played by Amy Thompson), as she is swept up by a mighty tornado, which deposits her in Munchkinland,” O’Fallon said.
The Scarecrow is played by Kristin Schell, Tinman by Melanie Arnold, Cowardly Lion by Beth Brissenden, Wicked Witch by Casey Conroy, Good Witch by Justin Barnes and the “great and powerful Oz” by A.J. Hamann.
“It’s a show the whole family will enjoy,” O’Fallon said.
