Winemaker event coming to Fiona’s
The Carson Valley Inn’s Meet the Winemaker dinner series continues at Fiona’s Restaurant on Monday night, Jan. 12, with a five-course gourmet dinner paired with some of Rodney Strong Winery’s best wines.
The evening’s menu starts with a prelude of vegetarian napoleon: puff pastry layered with a vegetable mousse and served warm with a light cream sauce. Next is an appetizer of sauteed scallops, prosciutto and spinach, served over a handmade cracked pepper pappardelle pasta. Salad will be chicken and sausage, bleu cheese and walnuts with a zinfandel dressing in a butter lettuce cup. Following a fruited ice intermezzo, the entree is a duet of lamb and filet. The lamb is served with a rosemary red wine sauce and the petit filet with a creme de cassis sauce accompanied by journey potatoes and winter vegetables. Dessert will be Chocolate Grand Marnier Mousse Cake.
The wines served with dinner will include Charlotte’s Home Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, 1996; Chalk Hill Vineyard Chardonnay, 1995; Old Vines Zinfandel, 1995; Alexander’s Crown Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 1994; and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 1993.
In 1959, long before Sonoma County was discovered as a premium grape growing region, founder Rodney Strong began his search for vineyards that would bring each grape variety to its fullest potential. Ultimately, he selected several vineyards in the Chalk Hill, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley appellations of Sonoma County. Rodney Strong Vineyards’ control of these legendary Sonoma County vineyards assures consistent style and quality from year to year.
Fiona’s monthly Meet the Winemaker dinners are an opportunity to learn more about wine in a relaxed atmosphere for all levels of wine enthusiasts, from the neophyte taster to the veteran wine connoisseur. The price for the evening is $45 per person including tax and gratuity.
