Wine and Roses to benefit Make-a-Wish

Staff reports

The fifth annual Wine and Roses event will be held Saturday, July 25, at Genoa Lakes River Bend Grille, 6-9 p.m.

The evening will be filled with entertainment, raffles, a silent auction and a special drawing for a 1968 Firebird.

All proceeds from this event, which is sponsored by the Carson-Douglas-Tahoe-Lyon Board of Realtors, goes to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

The group raised over $25,000 last year and has set a goal of $50,000 this year, said Linda Walker, chairman of the benefit.

“As of today,” she said, “we have commitments from over 22 wineries and 20 local restaurants.”

Tickets for Wine and Roses are $30. To purchase a ticket, or for more information, call the Carson-Douglas-Tahoe Lyon Board of Realtors at 885-7200.

The fund-raiser is an opportunity for Realtors to “make a difference” in their communities.

At the benefit, there will be wine-tasting, hors d’oeuvres and live music.

Guests may wear semi-formal dress.

A book about the late Katie Helling, made by her mother Jocelyn to explain how Make-a-Wish helped her, will debut at the event. Friends of Kate and her mother helped to put the book together.
