Weed training coming up in Carson and Reno
Want to be prepared this spring when those weeds start popping up? University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will conduct “Weed Warriors” Invasive Weed Training for those interested in learning about noxious and nuisance weeds common to Nevada and how to identify and control them.
The two-day training will be offered in both Carson City and Reno.
n Carson City. Jan. 16 and 17, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Carson City Cooperative Extension Office, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 15; register by Jan. 5
This session will also be offered via videoconference at the Winnemucca Cooperative Extension office at the Fairgrounds.
n Reno. Feb. 13 and 15, 8:30 a.m. to noon, Reno Cooperative Extension Office, 5305 Mill Street; register by Jan. 29.
Participants will learn about weed law, biology, identification, management and control of noxious weeds such as tall whitetop and various thistles and other nuisance weeds, including cheatgrass and foxtail barley.
The registration fee is $20 and includes training materials (including a weed identification and control binder), program materials, refreshments and a “Weed Warrior” T-shirt. The Nevada Department of Agriculture will award seven general Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to licensed pesticide applicators who complete this Weed Warrior Training.
