Watercolor fundamentals class set for WNCC
A new fundamentals of watercolor workshop will help beginners and intermediate painters learn the basics of watercolor at Western Nevada Community College next month.
Flat wash, graded wash and wet-on-wet are a just a few of the basic techniques that will be demonstrated by artist and teacher Chris Olesen, who is a graphic artist with The Record-Courier.
Students will also learn about paper, brushes and paint and a small painting will be completed during the workshop, Olesen said.
The class will be held at the WNCC Douglas campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 11, and is the first of three workshops offered this spring.
This is a non-credit class, and students should sign up by Monday, March 6, to reserve a space. The one-day workshop costs $35. A supply list is available at the WNCC Douglas office.
Olesen has painted in watercolor for 20 years and has paintings in private and corporate collections in many states and foreign countries. She has won several prizes for her realistic landscapes and still lifes and has studied under several prominent artists including Kolan Peterson, Vic Czerkas and Lady Jill Mueller.
Her studies also include a summer course at the Royal College of Art, London, and Lady Jill Mueller’s watercolor workshop in Scotland. Watercolor paintings by Olesen can be seen at Blue Moon Designs and Gallery at 1411 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
Two more watercolor workshops are scheduled for April 8 and May 6, meeting 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at WNCC Douglas, 1680 Bently Parkway, Minden.
