Watercolor art classes offered at WNCC
Art classes offer children the chance to express themselves and gain a sense of accomplishment at the new skills they have learned.
The College for Kids program at Western Nevada Community College Douglas is offering a new non-credit watercolor art class.
Watercolor For Teens for ages 10 to 16 meets Tuesdays, Feb. 6 to 27, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Bently Hall, WNCC Douglas.
Students will learn beginning watercolor techniques with color mixing, composition, sketching, brush strokes and design components.
Proper use and care of materials will be covered. Each student will complete one or more paintings. The classes are designed for beginning or intermediate students. Students will advance at their pace according to their own skill level.
Janice Shedd has been an art instructor in the public schools and at WNCC and teaches private lessons. Her work can be seen at the East Fork Gallery in Gardnerville.
The fee is $50 and includes all supplies. Parents should pre-register students by Tuesday, Jan. 30, at WNCC Douglas, 1680 Bently Parkway South, Minden. Late registration can not be accepted.
A drawing techniques class for students ages 6 to 12.
The non-credit class is offered on Mondays from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Jan. 29 to Feb. 26, at Bently Hall. Class will not meet Feb.19.
Students will learn drawing techniques such as shading, value and perspective. Drawings will be created in black and white using charcoal pencils and in color using colored pencils. Longtime art instructor Mark Tompkins will teach the class.
Class registration closes Monday, Jan. 22. Parents can register their children at the Douglas Campus of WNCC, 1680 Bently Parkway South, Minden.
