VFW needs blood donors
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8583 will take part in “Make a Difference Day” Oct. 24, with a blood and canned food drive.
In order to hold the blood drive, the group must sign up people now, according to Phil Caterina, commander.
“Blood donations are down,” Caterina said. “As the holidays approach, United Blood Services needs volunteers to replenish the needs of the community. Accidents are among the reasons blood is desperately needed.”
Most healthy people between the ages of 17 and 79 who weigh at least 100 pounds are eligible. And it doesn’t hurt, he said.
“There are many who would like to make that special difference in our wonderful community,” he added, “but cannot due to health reasons. The City of Refuge, Carson Valley’s safe home for pregnant women who need shelter, is in need of food supplies. If you can’t give blood, please come to the site anyway and donate canned or dry goods,” he said.
The drive will be Oct. 24, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at FitzHenry’s, 1380 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
Donors should register now, as it takes at least 35 donors to schedule the UBS mobile unit.
Call Dick Creley of the VFW and drive coordinator, at 265-5987, to schedule. The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary will serve cookies and refreshments.
