VFW district 1 takes first in Reno parade

The Veterans of Foreign Wars District 1 won first place in the Veterans Day Parade in Reno.

Commander of District 1 is Daryl Mobley of Topaz VFW Post 3630 and president is Patrea Hoke of Carson City VFW Post 3726. The winning float depicted the Korean Memorial. This year is the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the conflict, and the anniversary will be observed through 2003.

In addition, the district includes Wellington Post 8084, Reno Post 3819, Gardnerville Post 8583, Virginia City Post 8071 and Dayton Post 8660.

Mobley said he thanked all who helped build the float, the Schmidts and their dog Sarge and the Topaz Ladies Auxiliary for participating in the parade.

The City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the parade, and the plaque awarded to the district was donated by Carpenter’s Music World in Reno.
