Vera Gesselman is state AARP award winner

Vera Gesselman was presented the AARP 2000 Community Spirit Award at the May meeting of Chapter 3683 by Jane Lehrman, past state communications coordinator.

Gesselman was nominated for serving as facilitator of the AARP women’s financial program in 1999; leading the “Connections for Independent Living” activity in 1999; designing the booklet for the Carson City Retired Teachers Association, a sister organization of AARP; writing, designing, editing and producing “Update,” the state newsletter; producing the newsletter “Silver Threads” for Chapter 3683; acting as Nevada state communications specialist for two years; and helping coordinate the successful “Social Security Sundae” event that drew attendance from all of Northern Nevada.

One AARP member from each state was chosen to receive the award and, from those, a national award will be given.
