What: Ag Forum on growing vegetables

Where: CVIC Hall in Minden

When: 6 p.m. Tuesday

One use of an ample-sized yard or small farm is a vegetable garden.

The Agriculture Innovation Forum for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the CVIC Hall in Minden, will feature Wendy Hanson-Mazet, Master Gardener Program Coordinator, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. Wendy will discuss the best growing style to meet your property and goals. She will compare growing naturally, to growing organically, to growing conventionally and to make the most of a short growing season. For those income minded growers, Wendy will cover the key components of a successful subscription business or community supported agriculture operation.

“Growing your own food has become very popular again. In yesteryear the family garden was a necessity, while today people are more interested in good tasting food, food safety and nutrition,” Cooperative Extension Educator Steve Lewis said. “Some folks have even opted to venture into small-scale food production for supplemental income.”

The Agriculture Innovation Forum Series is designed to provide practical information and know-how for agricultural producers and small acreage owners to optimize their land use potential and maintain agricultural open space in Carson Valley. The Agriculture Innovation Forum Series is intended to be an open dialogue format allowing attendees ample opportunity to ask questions and learn. The series is held the last Tuesday of the month at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Ave., Minden, from 6-8 p.m.
