Valley youths in ‘Swan Lake’
Six Carson Valley dancers auditioned with the Tahoe Dance Co. and were selected to participate in the performance of “Swan Lake, Act III” at the Cal-Neva Celebrity Showroom at Crystal Bay Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m.
Jonathan Renwick, 15, will dance as the Prince, whose mother wants to find a wife for her son. Erica Chipp, 13, Georgia Joy Wright, 14, and Tiffany Renwick, 13, will each dance solo parts as one of the several princesses who are trying to win the prince’s heart.
The Prince, however, is in love with the White Swan. In the third act, the Odile, the Black Swan, danced by Rachel Chipp, 14, is brought in by her father, magician Baron Rothbart.
The Prince dances with Odile and is fascinated with her, while the White Swan tries to warn the Prince that he is being fooled. Keagan Chipp, 8, dances as a courtier and also has a solo part. Each of these students received their ballet training through Pinkerton Academy of Dance in Carson City, and five were accepted to Joffrey School of ballet in New York for the 1998 summer intensive program.
The performance of “Swan Lake, Act II,” is presented by the Arts for the Schools and Tahoe Dance Co. and School and is accompanied by performance of the “Toyshop Ballet.” Tickets will be on sale at all Arts for the Schools outlets. Cost is $10 for adults, $4 for students and $2 more at the door.
