Valley students earn awards in school and regional science fairs
Area students competed in the Western Nevada Regional Science Fair held at Lawlor Events Center in Reno March 19.
First place regional awards went to: Matt Swart, in the high school physics category, a 9th grader at Carson Valley Middle School, and Max Helling, in the 3rd grade individual category, a student at Jacks Valley Elementary School.
Three C.C. Meneley Elementary School students earned regional awards. In the 4th grade team division, Ben Brower and Chris Romanowitz placed third. Kristina Chiapella was awarded a second place in the 5th grade category.
Students to take their projects to the regional competition from Carson Valley Middle School are in the science classes taught by Allison Whybrew, Linda Bell, Linda Douglas, Lin Nooner-Vana and Tony VillaSenor. More than 350 participants from the 7th, 8th and 9th grades competed in the CVMS school-wide fair held in February.
The winners of the CVMS school-wide competition headed to the regional contest. They were, first place for Core 7-A, Patrick Gehrig, second, Matt Austin, third, Tyler Hales and honorable mentions Kim Gelderman and Cody Witt; for Core 7-B, winners were, first place, Rebecca Wallstrum, second, Sara Henningsen, third, Justin Coleman, Kirkwood Harris and Kylie Rowe. Winner in the 8th grade was Kristin Kvasnicka and in the 9th grade, Matt Swart.
