Valentines are theme for recreation activities

Staff reports

The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Division will hold valentine-themed events in February.

Adults will enjoy a morning with artist Carol Foldvary-Anderson creating handmade valentines in “Handmade Love.”

Students will be encouraged to release their “love spirit” while cutting, pasting, sculpting, painting and sharing stories, said Anderson.

Participants will make five or more sentimental valentines to give to those who are special to them. All supplies and materials are included.

Classes will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the recreation annex building. Cost is $35.

In “Let’s Play with Clay,” for ages 7-12, students will create lasting memories and have a sense of pride creating projects working with clay.

In the first class, students will create a valentine’s project; in the second class, they will glaze their items.

Classes will be held at the recreation annex building on Mondays, Feb. 5 and 12, 3 to 4 p.m. Cost is $20.

Spaces are limited. Pre-register at the recreation annex, 1325 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. For more information, call 782-9828.
