Unity to offer workshop
On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20, from 1-4 p.m., the Unity Church Of Today will sponsor a workshop entitled “Communion: Deepening Spiritual Focus” to be held at the historic Genoa Church. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a return engagement led by Kathy Zavada, a nationally known and honored retreat facilitator.
The focus will be on exploring and experiencing a variety of spiritual practices that can deepen one’s ability to empty and still the mind through meditation (both guided and silent), singing devotional songs, prayer, “EDGU,” a gentle body movement and mental exercises for mind and heart opening. The overall objective is to feel a deeper connection with one’s own self.
Zavada says, “It will be a time for exploring and discovering wider possibilities in consciousness by simple, tried and true methods.”
Zavada’s background includes being a best-selling recording artist whose latest, sixth CD and cassette, “Trust There Is Love,” has just been released. She is known nationally as a leading retreat facilitator and has degrees in psychology and music. She spends a month each year in Indian with her teacher, meditating many hours a day, singing and doing service in the community. Zavada resides in Mt. Shasta, Calif., but has appeared at the Unity Church Of Today sponsored retreats.
A suggested love offering of $25 is requested for workshop attendees, and it is open to all, not just church members. Those people attending the 10:30 a.m. service at United Church Of Today in Genoa on Sept. 20 will have an opportunity to “preview” Zavada when she will be the guest musician.
