Unity Church offers speaker on Sunday
Unity Church of Today will welcome Rev. Scott Schell from Lakewood, Colo., on Sunday, Nov. 29. He will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service at the historic Genoa Community Church.
Rev. Schell was graduated from the Unity School for Ministerial and Religious Studies in Missouri in 1994. He is now minister of a Unity Church located in Lakewood, a suburb of Denver. Prior to taking this position, he had an inner city ministry in Denver, which provided an outreach to the diverse population of the inner city.
Rev. Schell says this job helped him “stretch and grow” because the encounters are sometimes unpredictable and require being able to react quickly in a variety of scenarios. In addition to his Unity parish in Lakewood, he travels on alternate weeks to Vail, Colo., where he serves the Unity of the Mountains parish.
Rev. Schell came to the ministry with an unusual background. As a certified public accountant with a major public accounting firm, he “bumped into” some business opportunities which resulted in him acquiring a small manufacturing firm and later a bakery. In both cases, his business savvy, coupled with his people skills, produced turn-arounds resulting in business successes.
His sister, Kelly Harris, who lives in Genoa with her husband, William, and their two children, says Scott is an “awesome” speaker and is full of good tips for using Spirit to enrich one’s everyday living.
Unity’s Thanksgiving Communion Service is open to the community and will be held Wednesday evening, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Genoa church with guest minister Rev. Charlotte-Brown leading the service.
Unity Church of Today’s Sunday services are held at the historic community church in Genoa at 10:30 a.m. Youth Church meets at the same time. The church office and bookstore is located at 1489 Highway 395 in Gardnerville, telephone 782-4429.
