United Way Day of Caring held at Family Support
The annual United Way Day of Caring was held in Carson Valley at the Family Support Council, where Boy Scouts in Troop 140 and employees of Southwest Gas Corp. worked to improve the facility.
The Scouts, according to director Karen Edwards, pulled weeds and mowed grass in the yard at the council’s building on Waterloo Lane. The Southwest gas Corp. employees were on their own time and painted cupboards for the child care room.
“We really appreciate the volunteers who came and helped us,” Edwards said.” We probably just wouldn’t have ever done it (the chores).
“We appreciate the volunteers for taking the time out of their busy schedules to help us.”
The Family Support Council also helped coordinate a trip on Lake Tahoe aboard the Harrah’s yacht for some 23 young people from the Kahle Lake apartments at Lake Tahoe.
“These kids don’t have those kinds of opportunities very often,” Edwards said.
The Day of Caring events were held July 24 and coordinated through the United way agency at Lake Tahoe, which is a supporter of the Family Support Council.
