Two Tigers receive Anderson scholarships

Two Douglas High students are recipients of $3,500 Joshua L. Anderson Foundation scholarships.

Sloane Niccoli and Andrew Rangel were among the recipients of the award from across Northern Nevada.

For 27 years, the Joshua L. Anderson Memorial Foundation has been awarding college scholarships to Northern Nevada students who played high school baseball or softball, while achieving academic excellence and maintaining a high level of community and school activities. The Foundation has announced 12 new recipients, awarding $45,000 in scholarships for 2019.

In addition to Niccoli and Rangel, students from Reno, Elko, Battle Mountain and Dayton received the awards.

Both seniors play baseball for the Tigers.

Josh Anderson was a 1991 graduate of Reno High School. He played baseball at Reno National Little League, Reno West Babe Ruth, Reno High School, Reno Knights American Legion and DeAnza College in Cupertino, California. Anderson died on June 25, 1992, of Sudden Death Syndrome shortly after pitching in the University of Nevada, Reno summer baseball tournament.
