Two art classes for youths offered

The College for Kids program at Western Nevada Community College

Douglas is offering two art classes for students ages 6 to 12.

Pen andInk Drawing is offered on Mondays from 3:30 to 5 p.m., March 5 to 26.

Students will work with pencils for sketching and then complete their

drawings using pen and ink. The instructor will teach a step by step

process enabling students to complete their pictures while learning

various drawing techniques. WNCC instructor Mark Tompkins will teach

the class. Mark has taught art for many years to children and adults.

The class will meet at Western Nevada Community College Douglas.

Parents need to pre-register their children by Monday, Feb. 26, at the

Douglas Campus of WNCC. Late registrations can not be accepted.

Multimedia Art For Kids meets on Tuesdays, March 6 to 27, 3:30 to 5

p.m. at WNCC Douglas. This class will teach kids how to create a

variety of art pieces using different skills and mediums. Techniques

include pastel drawing, block printing, sgraffito, scratchboard, pen and

ink, and collage.

Each week as the students learn about the art form

they will complete different art projects while expressing their own

creativity. Instructor Janice Shedd teaches private art lessons and has

been an art instructor in the public schools and at WNCC. Her work can

be seen at the East Fork Gallery in Gardnerville.

Cost is $55 and includes materials for all the art projects.
