Trombone master to give concert at PWLMS

Staff reports

Dr. Irv Wagner, professor of trombone at the University of Oklahoma and assistant conductor of the Oklahoma City Symphony, will direct and perform with the bands from Douglas High School, Carson Valley Middle School and Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and the Douglas High School brass choir in the PWLMS cafetorium on Wednesday, April 5, at 7 p.m.

Admission will be $2 a person or $5 for a family.

“This should be an exciting, memorable concert,” said CVMS music director Jim Burnett.

“Dr. Wagner is not only a highly accomplished trombone player, but he is an inspirational teacher as well. He has performed with his touring groups worldwide, including China and the Vatican,” Burnett said.

Wagner is widely noting for his ability to combine humor with his playing.

“No one will forget his beautiful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace,’ nor the fun he has with ‘Bye, Bye Blues’!” added Burnett.

Dr. Wagner will spend four days in the Valley, sponsored by DHS, PWLMS and CVMS, working with school bands. Accompanied by the DHS brass choir, he will present short programs at each elementary school.
