Tigert band takes first in San Francisco

Staff reports

The Douglas High School marching band took first place, for the first time, at the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco Feb. 19.

The 80-member band was invited to the parade because of its excellence, said director Bill Zabelsky, and competed with other high school bands of high quality.

The band has marched several times in the parade since the first time it was invited, in 1993, Zabelsky said. The band took second place that year.
