Tiger band takes second at UNR
The Douglas High School Fighting Tigers Marching Band took second place in its division at the University of Nevada, Reno, Sierra Band Crusade on Saturday.
“We took first place in flags and second place overall in the AAA Division,” Interim Band Director Tammy Owens said Monday. “Our kids put on their best show of the year at UNR.This group of kids showed outstanding character, dedication and kept a positive attitude under difficult circumstances this year. I am very proud of all that they were able to accomplish this year.”
Owens said Elko received the first place award in the AAA Division.
Saturday’s competition will be Owens’ last with the Tigers.
After losing their director in August, they went on to win first place in their division, first place for music and first place for visual effects at Spanish Springs on Oct. 25.
The Tigers took first place overall at the McQueen High School Extravaganza for marching bands in their division, in addition to first place for brass, first place for woodwinds, and first place for guard-pageantry.
