Third fire in three days claims Fish Springs garage
A garage on Windmill in Fish Springs was damaged in a fire around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday.
It was the third fire East Fork firefighters and Douglas County deputies responded to in three days.
Arriving units found a detached garage approximately 25 percent involved with the main residence immediately threatened. No residents were home at the time, Battalion Chief Scott Fraser said.
“Using three engines, three ambulances, two water tenders, and three command officers the fire was knocked down in approximately 15 minutes,” Fraser said. “Units from Tahoe Douglas Fire and Carson City Fire were used to cover while East Fork was committed. Damage was contained to the garage, with no damage to the main residence. Unfortunately, the main electrical line to the home was destroyed in the fire. Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.”
There were no reports of injuries. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
“As we move into warmer, dryer weather, East Fork wants to encourage the public to create defensible space around your homes,” Fraser said. “If this fire had become much larger there would have been an immediate threat to numerous other homes in the area.”
