Douglas County commissioners meet 1 p.m. today where the fireworks will no doubt be over Candy Dance and three competing fairs seeking permits today. The Peddlers Fair, Autumn Boutique and Gilles Menagerie are all seeking commission approval. The county manager’s evaluation is also on tap for today. The meeting times out at 4 hours and 40 minutes.

A fire closed the eastern entrance to Virginia City on Sunday. East Fork as a crew dedicated to the 96- acre Pedlar fire, which started 1:30 p.m., and prompted evauations in American Canyon near Silver City. Sierra Front spokeswoman Elayn Briggs said the threat from the fire has declined considerably. Chance of ignition is 86 percent today, so be careful with sparks out there.

I got word today that the Chorus on the Comstock won’t be performing for Pops in the Park, which makes sense since there are looking for a new director.

We didn’t crack the record for Sunday, but we might today. The observed temperature in Minden was 97 degrees. The record, 101 set in 1932. The record for July 1 is 102, set in 1924. The forecast is for 100 degrees.
