A 264-case spike in Douglas County reported Tuesday evening drove the number of active coronavirus cases from 39 to 303, or close to the 304 total cases reported on Sept. 24, according to Carson City Health and Human Services. The health agency is so overwhelmed that it’s reporting positive results before completing contact tracing.

Douglas County Emergency Manager Tod Carlini said a record 554 people were tested at the community center in Gardnerville on Tuesday. I got down there a little before 2 p.m. and folks were lined up around the center parking lot and across Waterloo in the Lampe parking lot, too.

On Tuesday, Douglas County Superintendent Keith Lewis reported 13 new cases involving nearly every school in Carson Valley. Most of the cases are presumptive. School’s out for Thanksgiving break. UNR students are home until January, depending on what else happens.

Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center announced it is at 90 percent capacity and is expanding beds by using Carson Tahoe Sierra Surgery and Carson Tahoe Long-Term Acute Care Hospital.

East Fork firefighters responded to a smoldering burn pile 5 a.m. today near Sheridan. It was enough to rouse the neighbors to call 911 after gusty winds of up to 27 mph helped it rekindle.

If you’ve got business with local or state government, today’s the last day this week before the holiday. Everything’s pretty much shut down for Thanksgiving on Thursday and you can tell from the stores.

At 47 degrees, it’s warmer outside at 5:49 a.m. than it’s forecast to be all day on Thanksgiving. The forecast precipitation has evaporated so expect sunny skies and a high temperature of 50. The wind will be out of the east at 5-10 mph shifting west in the afternoon.
