The May 17 R-C Morning Report

Genoa, Nev. — I’m following up today on the power line incident that closed Foothill Road right around the same time as the altercation at the county commission meeting on Thursday evening. The road was closed for two hours between 6:45 and 9 p.m.

The elephant in the room at Stateline on Thursday night was the conflict over the RDA. It was a rough meeting with Commission Chairman Barry Penzel calling a couple of recesses. I’ve reached out to him and Commissioner John Engels who didn’t return after the recess during which deputies were called.

Commissioners voted to move forward with new rates for the consolidated county water systems. The rates include an overall increase of 6 percent, but low water users will initially see a decrease in their bills. Not everyone is served by the county water system.

The residents of Saratoga Springs are hosting their 19thannual community garage sale 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Carson Valley Community Theatre is continuing its ‘USO A Salute to the Troops,’ at the Copeland Building tonight, Saturday and Sunday. Check The R-C calendar for more information.

Expect mostly cloudy skies today with a high temperature near 56 degrees and the wind out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
