Genoa, Nev. — A 5.5 magnitude earthquake set off another spate of temblors north of Coaldale Junction at 1:13 a.m. today. Four Coleville residents reported feeling the quake, which appears to be the closest it came to Carson Valley. That spot is still vibrating with nine aftershocks stronger than 3.0.

Final numbers for turnout and the vote came out on Thursday, and it appears we’ve got a tie for the fifth seat on the Skyland General Improvement District with Dennis Berry and Richard Nice both receiving 104 votes. If it’s found to be a tie, the two candidates will likely cut cards for the seat.

Alpine County reported four new coronavirus cases on Thursday bringing its active cases to 13. Douglas had three new cases and nine recoveries, bringing the county’s active cases to 27.

Hold onto your hats, because a high wind warning kicks off at 10 a.m. today, bringing 20-25 mph southwest winds gusting to 45 mph at times. Expect a bumpy ride through the middle of the Valley today. The warning expires at 1 a.m.

The main chance for precipitation doesn’t hit until 5 p.m. with partly sunny skies and the wind picking up in the afternoon. We could see a little more snow on Saturday morning. Expect today’s high temperature to reach 50 degrees.
