Teddy Bears to drop out of sky for charity

Staff reports

In conjunction with the Minden Rotary Balloon Race, Soroptimist International of Carson Valley will sponsor a new event, the Hot Air Teddy Bear Affair on June 11.

Bears will be numbered with corresponding tickets costing $5 each. Balloonists will ascend with the numbered Teddy Bears, all with parachutes, and drop them on a predetermined mark – much like a “Hare and Hound” race, says Soroptimist member Jessica Jensen.

The bear that lands closest to the mark will earn its owner a $1,000 cash prize.

Tickets may be purchased at Scolari’s on Saturdays, May 27 and June 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at Raley’s Sundays, May 28 and June 4, at the same times.

Tickets will also be sold along the Carson Valley Days parade route on Saturday, June 10.

All proceeds will be used to support Carson Valley service projects, such as the Family Support Council’s shelter for victims of domestic violence.
