Street Celebration next weekend
Esmeralda Street will be closed to everything but foot traffic next weekend as the Chamber of Commerce brings the Carson Valley Street Celebration to Minden for the 15th year.
This year, the street fair is being held later than usual, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12.
Coordinator of this year’s event, John Campbell of Nevada Gourmet Grocery on Esmeralda, said organizaers hope to bring out even more than the between 7,000-10,000 they usually attract.
“It will be a little bit later so everyone will be settled in from their vacations and the kids will be in school. We hope to make it as much of a family event as possible,” Campbell said.
The fair is usually held in mid-August, but due to weather, and other complaints, the fair has been rescheduled.
“We were having conflicts with other fairs that were drawing our vendors,” said Dave Bolick, Chamber of Commerce executive director.
The event will offer the traditional variety of booths that features arts and crafts and specialty items, food and drinks and entertainment.
The music this year will be provided by the jazzy and rocking Slide Mountain Boys, along with the polished sounds of the Lazy Eights. The Lazy Eights are an original rock quartet from the Reno/Tahoe area. They were voted the best Reno band for the past three years by the Reno News & Review readers’ poll and voted this year’s best band in the Reno Gazette-Journal readers’ poll. Both groups will play all weekend.
“There will be good music, good food and good fun,” Campbell said.
