Street Celebration brings, food, fun, arts and crafts to Minden

Staff reports

The Carson Valley Street Celebration, sponsored by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, will close downtown Minden to traffic and open it up for crafts, food, art and fun this weekend.

The annual street fair is made extra special by the upbeat music and entertainment by the Side Saddle and Lazy Eights bands – plus face painting and other activities for kids.

The annual event is the main fund-raiser for the chamber, and chamber members work long hours to make the street fair a success.

Hundreds of high quality arts and crafts will be sold and displayed in booths down Esmeralda Avenue and in the Minden Park on Saturday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Crafters from all over the West bring their finest handmade items to the Valley, and visitors from Reno, Carson City and elsewhere wait for this fair each year to do their Christmas shopping, say organizers.

Exotic food, from barbecued Oriental beef to hot corn and kettle popcorn, will be sold to shoppers as they stroll down the streets lined with booths.

Other mouthwatering treats will be Philly steak sandwiches, egg rolls, taquitos, Greek and Cajun dishes, corn dogs and Hawaiian shaved ice. Beer, soft drinks espresso, fresh lemonade, layered fruit drinks and iced tea will also be offered.

Admission is free. For more information, call the chamber office at 782-8144.
