SOS Youth help at food closet

E.D. Thyr

A group of teens from Shepherd of the Sierra recently spent a half a day helping sort the food brought in to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet by the Boy Scouts.

This is one of a number of community-oriented activities planned by the Youth of Shepherd of the Sierra. Encouraged by a great group of counselors, The youth of SOS meet on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month in the youth room of Fountainhead Foursquare Church on Highway 395, just next to the future campus of Shepherd of the Sierra.

Attendance has been averaging 15 or more teens at these meetings, which begin at 7 p.m., and include Bible study and teen involvement in a variety of activities.

The December schedule of events for SOS youth includes an outing this Sunday right after church to Meadowood Mall for an afternoon of shopping and a fabulous Christmas party planned at Milky Way Farms later this month.

The teen choir, scheduled to sing at the Christmas Eve service at SOS, practices regularly on Tuesday afternoons in the choir loft at Trinity Lutheran in Gardnerville.

SOS teens also have a Bible class every Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. during the Sunday School Hour at Shepherd of the Sierra. These classes, as well as the Sunday morning Worship Service at 11 a.m., are being conducted temporarily in the gym at Jacks Valley Elementary School.
