SOS offers new service in new year
On Jan. 2, Shepherd of the Sierra will begin the new year by conducting worship services each Sunday morning at 8:30 and 11 a.m.
“The additional service was added for the sake of those who were interested in an early service – especially young people with smaller children who indicated that their children are starting to get tired and perhaps a bit irritable at the later hour. Senior citizens who routinely get up early have also indicated a preference for the early hour,” said Pastor E.D. Thyr.
The early service will be a more traditional, liturgically-oriented service featuring some of the historic ritual and responses of the Christian church as well as more of the historic hymnody of the church.
The 11 a.m. service will continue to be a more contemporary expression of the Christian faith and will include many familiar praise songs as well as Bible lessons read from modern translations, Thyr explained. The children’s song and message will be continued at both Sunday services.
Sunday school will be conducted between the services at 9:45 a.m.
“Outstanding teachers and materials make this hour of Bible study a meaningful and worthwhile adjunct to the worship services of the morning for everyone from ages 3 through adults,” Thyr said.
Shepherd of the Sierra is located in its new facility on Highway 395 just north of Jacks Valley Road, north of the new Target store. Until the completion of the surface street scheduled to be built next to Highway 395, entrance to Shepherd of the Sierra will be through the driveway of the Fountainhead Foursquare Church.
