Soroptimists offer scholarship to youth training

Staff reports

The most effective outreach to youth is from other youths.

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley is demonstrating its commitment to developing the leadership skills of the next generation by offering scholarships to attend the Competent Leadership Advanced Skills for Success (CLASS) Training Institute, said member Didi Chaney.

The CLASS Training Institute was established to empower young women by acquiring the leadership skills necessary to make a positive and significant impact in our communities. The institute is a seven-day, residential leadership training program. The curriculum includes course work on peer counseling, group dynamics and leadership, motivational skills, effective presentations and learning/teaching styles.

The institute is designed and co-sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Region, Soroptimist International of the Americas, and Sierra-Cascade, Sierra Nevada and Tierra Del Oro Girl Scout councils.

Young women will be selected from throughout Northern California and Nevada to attend the training, June 20-26. The total fee for registration, room, board, all program materials and activities is $260 for 7 days and 6 nights.

Scholarship information to attend the CLASS training institute is available by calling Chaney at Valley JobLine 782-8220.

A full scholarship will be awarded by Soroptimist International of Carson Valley, and the deadline for submission is May 27.
