Soroptimists offer scholarship for women

Staff reports

For some women, returning to school or re-entering the job market can be a financial nightmare.

This applies particularly to divorced women who are head of household and need to upgrade their job skills or want to finish a degree.

The Soroptimist International of Carson Valley invites mature women in this category to apply for their Training Awards Program, now caalled the Women’s Opportunity Award (WOA).

The club awards $1,500 to a woman who is completing her undergraduate program or entering vocational or technical training.

The winner in the local program is eligible for the regional level consideration for a $3,000 WOA. The regional winners then are eligible for a $10,000 award at the federation level.

The deadline for application for this year’s award has been extended to Jan. 5, 1998. Applications may be obtained from Karen Winters at Law Office of Karen L. Winters or by calling 782-7933.

The WOA are funded by the Soroptimist Foundations of the Soroptimist International of the Americas.
