Members of Soroptimist International of Carson Valley joined over 400 other Soroptimists at the Sierra Nevada Regional Conference of Soroptimist International of the Americas Inc. April 23-26 at Harveys Resort Hotel/Casino in Lake Tahoe. Valley Soroptimist club members joined Soroptimists from 62 other Soroptimist clubs in Nevada and Northern California for this four-day annual event.

Attending from the Valley group were President Barbara Lamerdin, President-Elect Arlene Gleich and members Liz Bricker, Didi Chaney, Frances Dreiling, Cora Hansen, Leesa Hanson, Jeanne Iben, Jane Lommel, Jeri Johnson, Wendy Erven-Smalley and Mindy Roberts.

The conference highlighted a year’s worth of community service by Soroptimist clubs, plus featured regional and international projects and the “Global Voice for Women” theme of the Soroptimist organization.

Also at the conference, numerous awards were presented to clubs for outstanding work in service and membership. A variety of recognition awards and scholarships for students and adults were presented at the conference from among nominations made by the clubs.

During the awards ceremony on Friday evening, the Carson Valley Soroptimists were honored with a runner-up award for the “Environment” category. This was for the group’s participation with the Carson Valley Clean-up Day.
