Soroptimist seeks applicants for award

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley is soliciting applications for its Women’s Opportunity Award geared toward aiding head-of-household women seeking financial assistance to return to school in order to enter or re-enter the work force or upgrade their employment status.

The local winner will advance to a regional competition, where two $3,000 winners and one $5,000 winner will be selected. The $5,000 winner will be eligible for one of three $10,000 finalist awards.

Applications may be obtained by contacting Linda Turria at Patterson, Rush and Company at 782-7874. The deadline is Dec. 15.

In addition to supporting the Women’s Opportunity Award, Soroptimist International of Carson Valley’s long-term project is the establishment of the shelter for victims of domestic violence, spearheaded by the Family Support Council of Douglas County.

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley, whose focus is “making a difference for women,” is part of the world’s largest classified service organization for executive and professional women, including over 100,000 members in 119 countries. Soroptimist clubs accomplish their service goals based on community need.
