Snowshoe Thompson poster contest draws entries from Norway
The 12th annual Snowshoe Thompson Festival will be held the weekend of June 26-27 at Mormon Station State Park in Genoa. The Carson Valley Historical sponsors this event, which includes a poster contest for school children in the 4th and 5th grades in the Carson Valley and elementary schools in Tinn, Telemark, Norway.
For the first time in memory, the grand prize, first and second prizes were awarded to students from Tinn. The grand prize winner is Veronica Leidal Stegared, 11, from Boen School, Tinn. The first prize went to Astri Luraas, 12, and second prize was awarded to Magnus Valebjorg, 12, also from Boen School. Leila Aman, 9-1/2, from Pinon Hills Elementary School in Minden was awarded third prize.
Honorable mention awards were given to Jenna Jenkins, 10, Minden Elementary; Keith Bishow, 9, Scarselli Elementary; and Linn Kalas, 12, Ida Ormseth Haugen, 12, and Lars Halvor Kaasa, 12, all of Haukas-Luras School, Tinn.
The historical society wishes to thank Wells Fargo Bank, Gardnerville, for sponsoring the grand prize. The Eldorado Savings Bank, Gardnerville sponsored the first prize and the Nevada Banking Co., Gardnerville, sponsored the second prize.
Also, special thanks goes to Emmy Dombrowski, Postmaster, Genoa, for sponsoring the third prize.
The winning posters will be on display at the Genoa Courthouse Museum during the Snowshoe Thompson Festival.
