Sierra Nevada Republican Women plan two events

Staff reports

The Sierra Nevada Republican Women have two events of interest to the community coming up.

The group has invited columnist Jon Ralston to speak at the regular monthly meeting at Two Guys from Italy on Wednesday, March 14.

Ralston has been a reporter since 1984 when he arrived in Las Vegas as a night police reporter for the Las Vegas Review Journal. He had a variety of assignments until he became a full-time political columnist in 1989. In 1994, Ralston began a weekly column for the Reno Gazette-Journal.

“His viewpoints are interesting and sometimes educational,” said Diane Gordon, publicity chair.

The meeting is open to all Republicans. Social time is 11:30 a.m. and luncheon is at noon. Call LeAnne Lummus, 782-4437, by noon on Tuesday, March 13. Entree choices are grilled chicken salad or cannelloni.

The club will hold its annual fund-raiser, a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, on March 18 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Cocktails will be served at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Mary Margaret Niebuhr will entertain guests on the harp, and strolling violinists Cecilia and Danny Yale will be on hand.

The Yales have performed for the past three years for the Sunday brunch at the Silver Legacy. Danny has had his own seven-piece orchestra at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco for 13 years. They play for conventions, parties and weddings.

“The feeling of their music cannot be duplicated by machines, and we are excited to have them perform at our dinner,” said Susie Biaggini, club spokesperson.

For more information, call Betty Jacobsen, 782-2334, or Biaggini, 782-8719.

For information on the violinists, call 782-2334.
