Sertoma member earns district honors

Carson Valley Sertoma gave a standing ovation to one of its own when Norma Beckerdite was picked by the Sertoma Nevada Sierra District as District Outstanding Club Secretary for the year 2000. She was honored Feb. 9.

A life member of Sertoma, Beckerdite was selected as the best club secretary among the nine chapters in the district, which altogether total 261 members.

During her year in office, she not only handled all secretarial duties but logged more than 250 h ours of community volunteer service in the Valley, on such projects as the Kids’ Fishing Derby, the Douglas County marathon Walk against cancer and all of Carson Valley Sertoma’s fund-raisers.

One of the sparkplugs of the Carson Valley group, she was elected to the important secretarial post by the 90-member chapter just two years after joining it. This year, she serves as secretary to the district headquarters, as well as vice president for sponsorship for her Carson Valley home club.
