Sertoma Cinco de Mayo is tomorrow in Minden
Carson Valley Sertoma will stage its third annual cultural celebration of Cinco de Mayo with dining, decorations, drinks and fun for all tomorrow, May 7, in Minden Park. Plans call for the biggest and best staging of the event to date.
Admission is free, and the whole family is welcome. There will be authentic Mexican food prepared by the Rancho Grande Restaurant, margaritas, beer and many kinds of soft drinks, all at reasonable prices.
Latino music will furnish the entertainment background, with games for adults and teens and pinatas for the muchachos. Craft booths will be open throughout the noon to 5 p.m. festival. The biggest event, the raffle of many dozens of prizes, will be capped by a drawing for the grand prize, a getaway for two at a bed and breakfast in Napa’s wine country.
All proceeds from the festival are given back to the community through Sertoma’s year-long support of assistance programs, scholarships, help for the hearing-impaired, donations to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and many other causes.
Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, marks the day of victory of the Mexican Army over the French in 1862. It is widely marked in American communities in the west and southwest.
