Sertoma brings home awards from conference

by Bob Cutts

Carson Valley Sertoma and individual members won multiple awards at the Fall District Conference of the Nevada Sierra District of Sertoma International held at the Sparks Nugget.

The Gold Achievement Club Award, the Honor Club Award-Bronze and the Operation Gem Hunt Prize were all presented to club President Jerry Chavez by Sertoma International Director Maurie Thomas. Sertoma Foundation Fellowship Pins were awarded to club members Rosemary Gatewood, Nancy Humphries and Fritz Rubins.

The awards are given for excellence in carrying out all facets of Sertoma activity, while the pins recognize individual donations to Sertoma Foundation’s charities.

The Gem Hunt Prize was for inducting six new members – Janet Asmann, Guy Botello, Michael Fry, Richard Hamzik, Bob Taormina and Judy Thomas – within the last quarter of the year.

Carson Valley Sertoma is the largest and most active service club in the Valley, raising an average $15,000 per year for local charities and social programs. A major goal for the club in 2001 will be to surpass the 100-member mark.
