Seniors for a Day are celerbated

Staff Reports

The Eldercare Coalition Senior for a Day program, the brain child of member Dotti Sannicks, invited seniors and others to submit their “special” seniors’ names for an afternoon of “being special.”

Lunch was provided by Bob McLean, new owner of the Pony Express Cafe and Steakhouse, and the special seniors were presented with gift baskets with items donated by Macy’s, Laurie Barrera of J.C. Penney’s hair salon, Bryan Hodge of The Manger Christian Book Store, Sandy Shupe and Veronica Green of the Ranchos Hair Company, June Gallagher of Avon and Ellen Lingelbach with Senior Living Alternatives.

Over 20 seniors’ names were submitted for this special day, with seniors Wayne Archer Sr. and Marie Eppler as the lucky winners.

Eldercare Coalition spokesperson Elaine Agnason said of this year’s Christmas program, “We wanted to do something special for the seniors of Carson Valley, and when member Dotti Sannicks brought up this idea, we thought it sounded great.”

In addition to the Senior for a Day program, the Eldercare Coalition also put together over 65 “goodie” bags for the Meals on Wheels recipients, along with bags for three of the smaller residential care homes in the area.
