Senior ballroom dance class offered

Staff reports

The Douglas County Senior Citizens Center will conduct ballroom swing dance lessons in preparation for the Feb. 10 Valentine’s Day Dance.

Instructor Robert DiDomenico has developed a program specifically designed for seniors. He will instruct students in the social standards of swing, fox trot and rhumba. Benefits derived from the experience include increased confidence in dancing and socialization, a good exercise program and a lot of fun, said Warren Bottino, supervisor at the center.

The five-week program will be conducted each Saturday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Jan. 6-27, and conclude on Feb. 10, just before the Valentine’s Day Dance. The lessons will take place at the Douglas County senior center, 2300 Meadow Lane, behind Lampe Park, Gardnerville. The fee for the program is $36 or $70 per couple.

Although it takes place at the senior center, anyone of adult age may participate. Gentlemen are especially encouraged, Bottino said.

Register for the class at the senior center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
