School trustees meet Tuesday

The Douglas County School District Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the media center at Douglas High School, 1477 Highway 395, Minden.

Trustees will discuss or take action on items including the following:

• 3:40 p.m., on the consent agenda, Trustee Sharla Hales will receive special recognition for her 12 years of service on the DCSD board.

• 4:40 p.m.: Hear a report from Superintendent Lisa Noonan regarding feedback from a survey asking for input on proposed start-end time changes for Carson Valley schools starting in 2015-16. The proposal was developed to address several needs, including support of new schedules for Douglas High School, Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and Carson Valley Middle School; addressing cost increases for the school district’s transportation department and research on teenagers and sleep.

• 6 p.m.: Public comment.

• 6:05 p.m.: Discussion to determine a date for the first meeting of the policy review and revision cycle subcommittee, in accordance with the DCSD Strategic Plan.

• 6:20 p.m.: Discuss an evaluation and to select an overall rating for the superintendent’s performance in 2014.

Notes: DCSD received two awards on Nov. 22 at the Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) conference in Henderson — School Board of the Year and Neal Freitas as New School Board Member of the Year. A series of meetings to distribute information to parents regarding reconfiguration of Pau-Wa-Lu and Carson Valley middle schools in the fall of 2015 continues on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Minden Elementary School. Additional meetings will be held on Dec. 16, 6:30 p.m., Minden Elementary School, and Dec. 17, 6 p.m., Gardnerville Elementary School. CVMS Principal Bob Been and Pau-Wa-Lu Principal Keith Lewis will be on hand to provide updates and answer questions regarding a transition survey of Carson Valley fifth, sixth and seventh grade parents.
