Savor the Flavor is tonight at Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch

Staff reports

The Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch will open its doors tonight, Feb. 27, for “Savor the Flavor ’99,” the Soroptimist of International of Carson Valley’s fourth annual wine- and micro-brew tasting.

Entertainment will showcase guitarist George Hanepen and the Chorus of the Comstock.

Southern Wine and Spirits is coordinating the wine-tasting, offering several California and Nevada wineries. The buffet provided by the newly remodeled Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch will include homemade dips, fresh vegetables with assorted crackers and cheese and a variety of fresh fruit.

Capital Beverages, New West Distributors and Comstock Distributing will present a wide selection of new micro-brews and old standards. Reno Home Brewer will offer recipes and show the necessary apparatus for home brewing.

Vince McCalla and Mark Chase, Valley certified public accountants, will offer some of their own private reserve, Bean County Brew.

Other brews to be sampled are Marzen Lager, Red Ale, Steam Beer, India Pale Ale and Light Lager. Appetizers for the beer-drinkers include chicken wings, meat balls and fresh tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa.

Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch will also serve stuffed mushroom caps and “Billy Bleu” bread. Inn Cognito of Genoa, Carson Valley Inn, JT Basque Bar and Dining Room and Topaz Lodge will donate desserts.

The silent auction will benefit the Family Support Council’s proposed shelter for victims of domestic violence. Choose packages from cross county ski/apres ski, gourmet food and lodgings from the Eagles Nest, David Walley’s Hot Springs spa, ClubSpa fitness, unusual wine and beer, “Harley” items, Angel dolls, plus many more.

A drawing for 100 pulls at the $3 Mega Bucks slot machine at the Carson Valley Inn will be held. Tickets for this drawing will be available at the door or from any Soroptimist member. Winner need not be present to win.

Tickets at $18 are available today from any Soroptimist or at any of these locations: Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Valley Do-It Center, Sharkey’s Nugget, Nevada State Bank at Smith’s and Carson Valley Market.
