Saturday brings rain to parched Valley
Nearly an inch of rain fell in Minden over the weekend as a low-pressure system moved into the Great Basin from California.
A total of .88 inches of rain fell, according to weather watcher Stan Kapler.
A rain gauge in the Gardnerville Ranchos recorded .62 inches of precipitation, while one near Genoa recorded right around a half-inch.
An inch of snow fell at Carson Pass and at Monitor Pass during the night.
Up until Saturday, there had been 15 straight days without precipitation in Minden.
The storm also cleared out a heat wave that set new high temperatures for Oct. 12 and 14.
According to the National Weather Service, Minden has received 1.04 inches of rain so far this water year.
The average for the month of October is .67 inches.
After four years of drought, forecasters believe this will be at least an average year for precipitation.
