Saddle Up open house offered Sunday to people who are interested in horses
The 8Q Ranch of Gardnerville will host an open house Sunday to give people interested in riding horses an opportunity to learn about the equestrian world.
As part of Saddle-Up America – a nationwide celebration of the horse – 8Q Ranch, along with Nevada Quarter Horse Association, will be one of hundreds of ranches hosting such events across the country.
“Research shows that one in three American households has someone in it who would like to be involved with horses, whether through lessons, trail riding, watching shows, or going on a riding vacation,” said Diana Deterding, national program director of Saddle-Up America. “A great way to help them get started is to put them together with people like 8Q Ranch, who are eager to share their knowledge and love of horses with their community.”
8Q Ranch and NQHA will feature activities such as a demonstration on equine safety, farrier demonstrations, a lecture on equine health and nutrition, a grooming clinic, and even a short riding lesson. Attendees will participate in hands-on familiarization, or “horse touching.”
“We want our open house to be a comfortable place for people to meet horses and learn more about them,” said Peggy Dawers of 8Q Ranch. “We see this as a real opportunity to share with others some of the things that horses have brought us.”
Each visitor will receive a Saddle-Up starter kit, sponsored by Wrangler, which includes safety tips, pointers on what to look for when buying a horse, how to pick a riding instructor, and recommendations on proper attire for riding.
Sponsors of the National Open House include Wrangler, Pfizer Animal Health, Purina Mills, MBNA, Fort Worth Star Telegram, American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, Arabian Horse Association, and the Paso Fino Horse Association.
8Q Ranch encourages its neighbors – no matter what their experience level with horses – to join them at this special celebration, and experience up-close the magic of the horse. The event will be held Sunday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. 4H will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs.
To get to 8Q Ranch, go west on Johnson Lane, right on Fremont Street to 2480 Fremont St.
