Rummage sale will benefit DHS senior with leukemia
A rummage sale will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., to benefit the Angel Vargas Fund at the old Copeland Lumber Yard on Highway 395 in Minden.
Anyone may set up a booth for $20. To donate items, call sale organizers Nancy Rojas, 265-2599, or Betsy Dorrance, 265-3693, or at Barton Skilled Nursing Center, 782-7846.
Angel is a 17-year-old Douglas High School senior who has been stricken with acute lymphocytic leukemia.
The sale is being organized by the nurses at the Barton nursing facility, who work with Angel’s mother, Marce Medina.
Medina and the teen’s father, Alvaro Vargas, have been using their vacation time to stay by the side of their son as he has been hospitalized. He recently completed a course of chemotherapy, and the family is waiting to see if his blood count will recover.
The garage sale will help the family with the mounting medical bills, according to Rojas. The family includes David, 16, Raymond, 14, Arthur, 14, and Krystal, 5.
A bank account has been set up in Angel’s name at Bank of America. The number is 0049 6266 4755.
