RSVP circus comes to town

Staff reports

Join the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Carson and Barnes Circus Family in the celebration of Jennie’s first birthday.

Jennie is the youngest member of the Carson and Barnes’ elephant family. Born on Sept. 6, 1998, Jennie weighed 250 pounds. She now weighs approximately 950 pounds and she is still growing.

While the arrival of any new baby is a miraculous event, this elephant’s birth was truly special. There are only about 40,000 Asian elephants in existence and preserving the species is expensive and complicated.

“Very few people are aware of how hard it is to keep this species alive,” says Janice Ayres, executive director of RSVP, the sponsor of the circus.

You are invited to meet Jennie, her mother Isa and the 100 other circus animals when they come to Carson City tomorrow, Sept. 23. Performances will be presented at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the circus location between the DMV and Silver City Mall in Carson City.

Tickets at special advance prices are available at Wal-Mart and RSVP. For information, call 687-5108. On circus day, tickets can be purchased at the circus box office.
