Residents may learn cake and home decorating
Western Nevada Community College, Douglas is offering several classes for adults this spring.
There are many easy and inexpensive methods to decorate and brighten a home. A Home Decorative Crafts class will teach students some of these do-it-yourself decorating techniques and crafts.
The non-credit class is offered on Saturdays, Feb. 3 to March 3, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Students will learn how to decorate and change items already in their homes such as lampshades, pillows and furniture and make new decorative craft items using boxes, frames, pictures, and mirrors. Students will learn how to choose colors, the types and use of paints, varying techniques for different looks and the tools and supplies needed. A basic supply list will be provided at the first class.

Western Nevada Community College, Douglas is offering Beginning Cake Decorating on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon or Tuesday, March 20, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Students can learn how to decorate fun and fancy cakes for birthdays and other celebrations as this class will teach the basics of cake assembly and decoration.
The piping techniques of borders, flowers, beads, strings and stars will be covered. The class fee includes the basic supplies and tools that students will use and can then take home. Cost is $30. The class meets at WNCC Douglas, 1680 Bently Parkway South, Minden.
Registration closes for the January class on Monday, Jan. 22, and for the March class on Tuesday, March 13.
Late registration can not be accepted for either class. Students may register using Touch-Tone Telephone Registration or go to http://www.wncc.nevada.edu for Internet registration.
