July 7, 1893
Shortly after 2 o’clock in Genoa on July 4th, Adam W. Dixon was shot and killed by Fred Gray. The affair was done without warning, as Dixon was sitting on Hansen’s porch. The bullet went through Dixon’s temple and came out through the ear.

July 4, 1918
At a meeting of the Douglas County Council of Defense held Monday night, the labor question in this locality was taken up and discussed from many angles with the final result of passing the following resolutions. It was brought to the attention of the council that farmers were hiring men away from each other by offering a higher wage, such action to the detriment to both farmer and harvest men.

July 7, 1933
L.P. Jacobsen, Fred Cook and D.L. Jones, members of the board of county commissioners went to Carson Wednesday to confer with the state highway board relative to securing federal aid for improving the county road from the main highway system to the California state line at Fredricksburg.

July 4, 1963
A fire at the Fred Kimmerling barn in Genoa last Friday was extinguished by Douglas County Volunteer fireman before there was any damage.

Students who will attend Scarselli Elementary and their parents are invited to a special open house at the new school Aug. 2. School opens for the first year-round school schedule in Douglas County the next day.
